Staff Picnic & Intern Appreciation Day
Hot Bread Kitchen held its first staff picnic on Saturday, August 5th, to honor several departing interns and celebrate summer. The staff picnic marked the first time that Hot Bread Kitchen’s staff, board, interns and bakers came together to meet one another’s families, taste everyone’s home cooking, and enjoy each other’s company outside of work. Everyone brought a dish to share, and the menu ranged from Bangladeshi chapatti with vegetables to Mexican potato-filled flautas to a sweet and savory Moroccan pastilla with chicken and spices.
After bestowing our intern honorees with commemorative Hot Bread Kitchen aprons, Executive Director Jessamyn Waldman led the bakers’ children in a highly competitive water-balloon toss. The game elicited a few tears over broken balloons, but all distress was quickly ameliorated by the plethora of fresh-baked goodies for dessert.
