Pan de Muerto

Pan de muerto (literally “bread of the dead”) is a traditional Mexican sweet bread baked in late October and early November to celebrate Día de los Muertos.  Much like Halloween, the holiday is a joyous celebration of life, as well as an opportunity to remember and honor the deceased. To celebrate, families set up altars in their homes, adorned with flowers and food that are left as offerings to lost loved ones. Pan de muerto is central to the celebration, both a treat and a visual reminder of those who have passed. Hand-decorated with a doughy skull and bones, Hot Bread Kitchen’s version is soft, buttery, and lightly sweetened with New York state honey and topped with sugar. Serve at room temperature or warm for 3-5 minutes in a 375 degree oven. Enjoy with coffee or hot chocolate.

Contains 4 pan de muerto.
