A CUSTOMIZED CULINARY TRAINING FOR NEWLY ARRIVED NEW YORKERS TO FIND WORK IN NEW YORK CITY’S FOOD INDUSTRY.
Hot Bread Kitchen is thrilled to announce a new program to meet the urgent need for workforce training, job placement, and English language and support services for migrants in New York City. The Culinary Career Pathways for New New Yorkers program will provide comprehensive job skills training and holistic wraparound services for recently arrived migrants who have received work authorization, facilitating access to high-quality employment in the food industry.
About the Program
Expanding upon Hot Bread Kitchen’s signature Culinary Fundamentals program, the program will include expanded English language instruction, professional readiness training, case management support, and hands-on, technique-driven culinary training, led by experienced bilingual chef instructors. The first cohort of the program will be held at City Harvest’s beautiful Sunset Park kitchen, beginning Spring 2024.

Culinary Career Pathways for New New Yorkers has been made possible thanks to an anchor investment from Robin Hood. Hot Bread Kitchen is continuing to pursue funding from other donors to provide crucial support to launch this needed program.
We are also seeking new partnerships with community partners who can help form a network of supportive services for migrants enrolled in this program, as well as community partners with kitchen space to host a cohort of this new program.
Why now?
Through a new statewide initiative launched by Governor Hochul, the New York State Department of Labor has identified at least 18,000 jobs with more than 400 employers that are available to migrants with work authorization—24% of which are with employers in the food and hospitality industries. The largest sector represented among those jobs is New York City’s food industry.
