We are so excited to announce our newest program, Culinary Career Pathways for New New Yorkers, designed to meet the needs of recently arrived migrants in New York City.
At Hot Bread Kitchen, we know that while migrants and asylum seekers face unique, nuanced challenges, they also need access to the same building blocks of economic mobility that help anyone achieve stability: living wage jobs to provide for their families, and a community to turn to for support.
Our New New Yorkers Program is taught by experienced bilingual Chef Instructors (former Hot Bread Kitchen members Kandy and Kisha) over the course of 5 weeks in both English and Spanish. Each participant receives comprehensive job skills training, English language instruction as well as wraparound support. The first session is currently being hosted by our partners City Harvest at The Venue, a beautiful event space with a commercial kitchen at their Sunset Park headquarters.
“Providing economic opportunities and job training for all is critical to a robust economy and supporting our communities. Hot Bread Kitchen’s Culinary Career Pathways for New Yorkers program will help connect newly arrived migrants with work authorization to key services so they can participate in the workforce of our city’s vibrant food industry to support themselves and their families. I thank Hot Bread Kitchen and our nonprofit partners for their essential role in creating pathways to culinary careers and financial stability.”
New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams
