Two Hot Bread Kitchen graduates, Saba and Misbah, were highlighted in The New York Times!
Saba and Zuly’s stories were featured as part of the Times’ annual “Neediest Cases Fund,” from which we received a grant last year.
The Neediest Cases Fund benefits 8 NYC-area organizations. Our grant was through The Community Service Society (CSS), an organization that has been extremely helpful in providing funding for us to buy uniforms, food, summer camp fees, or pay housing arrears when trainees are facing eviction. Saba and Zuly in particular benefitted from MetroCards to get to and from training and their workplace.
A Metrocard to cover the cost of transportation to and from training is repeatedly noted by our trainees as a crucial benefit that Hot Bread provides for women to join us and complete the program.
Saba: Language Was an Obstacle, but Not a Barrier
